Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association Counselling Service

This is a preventative service and currently counselling sessions are held at two venues in the boroughs of Hackney and Islington.

Our counselling service seeks to enable participants to recognise their uniqueness by gaining a deeper insight into themselves, and to gain heightened sense of self-awareness and empowerment. The aim of counselling is to help people reach a better understanding of what is going on, to explore and express one's feelings and thoughts, to find better, more effective ways of dealing with the problem and to enable greater acceptance of oneself and others. The orientation of the service is integrative.

Some of the areas for which support is offered include:

  • Depression, including post natal
  • Coping with the responsibility of being a parent
  • Relationships
  • Loss of purpose and direction in life
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Pent up emotions
  • Lack of self-esteem
  • Loneliness
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Conflicts
  • Life changes

Each counselling session will normally take place the same day and time each week and last for 50 minutes.
