Welcome to the Psychiatric Rehabilitation AssociationOver 50 years of service to the mentally illThe PRA (Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association), a self-help organisation founded in the London Borough of Hackney in 1959, has since developed into a dynamic range of services in three London boroughs.
SCOPEThe Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (PRA) is a partnership of patients, relatives, friends, and professional workers in association with the statutory social services and health authority that fund this work. The PRA has developed a wide range of community care facilities aimed at stimulating those recovering from mental illness and thus leading to greater initiative and social awareness. Our aim is to encourage participants to play an active part in the community so that, in conjunction with medical treatments, symptoms retreat or at least lessen in significance. As an organization we focus on supporting choice, the development of skills and the provision and support of opportunities. We achieve these by positioning service users at the heart of decision making; supporting self-help initiatives and encouraging them to access mainstream settings and interact with others in day-to-day situations. We believe that training is crucial, especially sessions which support, engage and create independence whilst working towards the social inclusion model. Our responsibilities are to all our staff, service users, and the customers who use our products and services. We focus on quality and constantly make every effort to keep our costs down in order to maintain affordable prices. We strive to provide a prompt and accurate service to all. Our employees, our members and our customers are important to us and we consider each one as an individual. PRA attaches the utmost importance to the safety, health and welfare of its employees, service users, customers and volunteers. PRA will take steps, as far as is reasonably practical, to ensure that the projects are safe and healthy environments in which employees, service users, customers, visitors and volunteers can work. PRA is responsible to regularly consult on health and safety issues with all its employees. PRA’s work programmes will adopt good safety practices, including the provision of a safe and healthy place of work and adequate facilities for the welfare of customers, employees, service users and volunteers at work. PRA is responsible to the communities in which we operate. We promote the choice of products made from recycled materials where possible. We encouraged the recycle of stationery, furniture and any other recycling product. We encourage energy efficiency on purchasing energy consumption. Employers are encouraged to check thermostats regularly to ensure that the individual needs and comfort of everyone in the projects are met. Recycling is also encouraged to avoid the organisation’s use of landfill. |
